The Kincskereső School is dedicated to fostering children's balanced personal development. It draws on the practical experiences of its educators, particularly those of its founder, Márta Winkler, while incorporating the best practices from both Hungarian and international alternative education. As part of Bethlen Gábor Elementary School and High School, it operates as a pedagogical workshop. Since its establishment in 1988, the school has adapted and evolved its alternative approach in response to changing societal conditions.
With the support and cooperation of parents, it has now grown into an eight-grade school!
ANDÓNÉ KATALIN NAGY
"A personal connection shaped my path early on, and I found myself preparing for a teaching career even as a child. Over the decades since, I’ve come to see this profession as a form of creative work. Understanding classroom dynamics, getting to know each child individually, planning their development, putting that plan into action, and then reflecting on both successes and challenges—this process requires intentionality and continuous growth. As the head of Kincskereső School, I strive to create an environment where my colleagues can engage in this creative process within the supportive atmosphere of a professional workshop, making development a fundamental part of our daily lives."
MÁRTA WINKLER ON THE KINCSKERESŐ SCHOOL
"I opened the school’s doors on August 31, 1988. My personal efforts were driven by the optimism of the political changes happening at the time, a strong desire to take action, and a genuine hope that we could move away from the rigid, Prussian-style atmosphere entrenched in schools. Instead, I envisioned a new, child-centered approach—what Balázs Vargha called a "school for people."
